Trial date set for man charged in girl's death
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Trial for a convicted sex offender charged in the abduction and slaying of a 10-year-old Cedar Rapids girl has been scheduled for November 28th. Roger Bentley is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in the death of Jetseta Gage. A Johnson County judge agreed last week to move the trial to Scott County, but lawyers for Bentley say they want the trial moved across the state to Pottawattamie County. They say there has been too much publicity about the case in the Quad Cities. Prosecutors say Bentley is accused of taking Gage from her home on March 24th and killing her. Gage's body was found the following day in a cabinet in an abandoned mobile home west of Iowa City. An autopsy showed she was sexually abused and suffocated. If convicted, Bentley would face two mandatory life prison terms. (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
