For me answering Michelle's penpal request earlier this year was the best thing I have done in 10 years of activism.

It has proved the most rewarding of experiences and I would recommend anyone eager to write to a death row inmate as a penpal would find it similarly rewarding.

I would leave it to others to make up your own minds about the merits of the case against her - as I have done.

I was born August 22, 1960 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
I have been on Death Row sent 1997. That is a long time in H-Unit.

During that time I´ve seen my friends and family, the people who were close to me, the people I could turn to when in trouble, slip away and forget that this is the time in my life when I need them most.

I can´t make them understand what a letter means to me and they don´t understand that even though my need is great, my time of needs wont be.

So I ask if there is anyone who can help me with a letter, stamps on occasion, even to chat about anything then I´d like to hear from you.

Like the other 107 convicted killers on Arizona's death row, LeRoy Nash is allowed to leave solitary confinement for an hour each day to exercise in a secure room.

But Nash, 89, seldom does. Hobbled by arthritis, deafness and heart disease, the oldest person under a death sentence in the USA usually just sits in his cell. He reads and writes letters in block print, and sometimes he strains to hear the conversations of other death row inmates through a 1-foot-square glass window and the concrete walls.

"I can't send or receive e-mail, nor make any collect telephone calls," Nash said in a recent letter to a USA TODAY reporter. "Unfortunately, this is one of the tightest death rows in America."

Nash may be held in "solitary," but in another sense he has plenty of company.

Joseph P Smith: Convicted of the kidnapping, rape and murder of 11 year old Carlie Brucia.

I followed this case from beginning to end and, because he says he is a Believer, I have to accept Joseph Smith as my Brother in Jesus Christ.

He has not contacted me but I am sure he would appreciate a few letters and cards. I have great empathy for his Mom, being one myself, and so am putting him on this list.

Dwight T Eaglin: Convicted of murdering a prison officer and an inmate.

I became interested in this case but never really followed it up well until the defendant received the death penalty.

I have since read up on his history and it seems he has alot of sad baggage.

He used to be a boxer and seems to have done rather well in the ring.

Because he has brought about the death of a prison officer, Dwight Eaglin has set himself up for a life of HELL.
I'm hoping he will find God again ( it seems he did go to church before he was sentenced to life without possibility of parole for another 'murder'
(says he acted in self defense )
..so keep him in your prayers and write him. He will need letters and cards to boost his moral.

I know the smiling and such in court is just a mask he wears to hide his pain.

He did apologise for his callous act.

Matt and he were very close and how he must feel right now doesn't bear thinking about
- I'm sure all hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to him.

A few years back I put out the story of Sherman Noble.

I read his story and wrote him a few times and then, after many years of incarceration, he eventually went to trial.

Sadly he got the death penalty and today I noticed that 'someone' has been reading about him so I have decided to put his name on this list.

As we all know, prisoners need letters and Sherman writes good ones.

Should you decide to write him please send him my very best wishes.

NOBLE, SHERMAN, DOB 11/14/1952, was sentenced to death on February 8, 2005.

Between August 1987 and August 1997 the defendant was found incompetent to stand trial. In August 1997, the court ruled Noble competent to stand trial.

The case was continued numerous times, primarily due to motions and appeals filed by the defendant.

Since posting the above I have discovered that Sherman Noble died on Kentucky's death row in 2007.

It's really sad because Sherman seems to have been another victim of society's lack of proper and ongoing treatment for people with mental illness.

Today I read Christopher Emmett is on the verge of being killed by the state of Virginia.

He has been written about by our friend William Van Poyck

Both guys are at the same facility. ( Van Poyck has since been transferred back to Florida )

killed by lethal injection on July 24th 2008.

Today I read about James Davis on North Carolina's death row and the fact that he has, at last, received the Purple Heart for bravery in the Vietnam war.

Now from what I've seen in documentaries and such, that was a horrific war ( as all wars are )

and so I think it would be nice if some of us send cards and letters of congratulations to Mr Davis.

Today I came across the case of a young guy called Blaine Daniel Ross who was given the death penalty in 2007 after what seems to have been a troubled life.

Perhaps he would appreciate some cards and letters of encouragement.

Hopefully the death sentence will be overturned on appeal.
