There was another delay Friday in deciding where to put a sexually violent predator. Douglas Badger still doesn’t know where he will live once he is released from a state mental hospital.
Last month, a judge ruled Badger can be released into San Diego County, but the state is having a difficult time trying to find a place for him to live. A judge Friday put off the decision for at least another month.
Badger has been classified as a sexually violent predator due to his history of assaulting young male hitchhikers.
A judge ruled that he is to be released from Atascadero State Hospital, but he is to be strictly monitored and undergo treatment for mental disorders.
The District Attorney’s office is going along with the process, but maintains that their role is to protect San Diego.
“Our position was that the best place for Mr. Badger at this point was to remain in the hospital,” prosecutor Kristen Spieler said. “Now our role is to make sure everything is done once Mr. Badger is placed in the community, every effort is made to make sure that the community is safe.”
One possibility is to place Badger in the same trailer outside Donovan State Prison where convicted sex offender Matthew Hedge briefly lived.
