Coatesville man charged with incest
Father and woman, now 25, said their 11-year relationship was consensual.
For 11 years, Hendricks County authorities say, a Coatesville man engaged in a sexual relationship with his now 25-year-old daughter. Fabian Chris Fields, 43, is charged with 30 counts of incest, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. Fields was held Friday in the Hendricks County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond. Hendricks County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Stephenie LeMay-Luken said Friday that four additional charges of possession of child pornography would be filed early next week. Fields was arrested Monday after two other daughters, ages 24 and 14, reported to the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department that Fields had molested the younger sibling. During the investigation, the daughters told authorities Fields had been having an intimate relationship with the 25-year-old. The Indianapolis Star generally does not identify victims of alleged sexual crimes. In separate interviews Friday, Fields and the 25-year-old said the relationship was consensual and they are in love. "Bottom line, I know it's wrong," Fields said in an interview room at the Hendricks County Jail. "Bottom line is that I'm not trying to say its OK. It's just she was OK with it, I was OK with it. We knew it was wrong but we couldn't argue the feelings that transpired." LeMay-Luken said those feelings are irrelevant. "She was 14," the deputy prosecutor said. "She has known nothing else in her adult life. She alleges, and our investigation alleges, that she was 14 when he began victimizing her." Fields and the 25-year-old said the relationship began after he met his two oldest daughters for the first time. The family had been separated for years. Fields said that after the meeting, his daughter told him she had feelings for him, and the two engaged in a relationship about a year later. "I never considered him (Fields) as my father," the woman said. "When I lived with my mother, she was telling me that my stepfather was my father." When reached at home, the woman said she never found the relationship with her and her father to be abnormal. "We'd sit and talk before we did anything," the woman said. "I had developed feelings once I got here. I feel really sad. I'm basically torn to pieces right now." LeMay-Luken said the prosecutor's office is working to get the woman counseling. "What our investigation has shown is that he has controlled every aspect in her life," LeMay-Luken said, adding that protective orders have been issued to bar Fields from having contact with his daughters. The 25-year-old woman accused her 14-year-old sister of lying about being molested by their father. "She lies about everything. He's (Fields) the best thing that ever happened to me. That's just how I feel." Superior Court Judge David H. Coleman has scheduled a pretrial hearing for Sept. 7 and a jury trial hearing for Sept. 21. If convicted, Fields faces up to 273 years in prison and a maximum fine of up to $320,000. Call Star reporter Tania E. Lopez at (317) 444-2804.
