CHESAPEAKE — A Western Branch man pleaded guilty Friday in Chesapeake Circuit Court to the rape of an 8-year-old child.
Christopher Lamar Watson of the 3400 block of Clover Meadows Drive faces a minimum of five years and as much as life in prison for the crime. Judge Bruce H. Kushner is scheduled to sentence Watson on July 5. “I’d just like to apologize for what I did,’’ Watson, 21, said after pleading guilty. “I was really intoxicated at the time.’’ Authorities discovered the abuse after the child was diagnosed with chlamydia, a sexually transmitted disease, according to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Diallo Morris. The offense occurred in 2004. Watson was arrested in January.
Watson was being held in the Portsmouth City Jail, where he was awaiting trial on other crimes. He is scheduled to stand trial in June on charges of grand larceny and statutory burglary.
