Authorities: Sex offender didn't register

HOMOSASSA - Authorities have accused a Homosassa man of failing to identify himself as a sex offender on his driver's license and register properly with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, according to an arrest report.

Carl Joseph Howard, 48, of 6640 W Ray Court, was arrested Wednesday morning. Authorities say they learned Howard was a sex offender after he was arrested Tuesday night on charges of driving with a license that was suspended or revoked. On May 8, authorities contacted Howard, a registered sex offender, and told him he needed to get a driver's license or identification card. If he didn't, he'd be charged with failure to register, authorities warned. Howard told authorities he had another residence in Georgia and had been traveling back and forth without telling anyone, a violation of state statute, authorities said. He is being held at the Citrus County jail without bail.
