INVERNESS - A 22-year-old Inverness man was arrested Wednesday and accused of entering a 29-year-old woman's house, waiting in her closet until she was in bed and then raping her for several hours, according to an arrest report.
Edward Samuel Byron, 22, of 4068 S Rainbow Drive, was arrested at 2:31 p.m. on charges of sexual battery and burglary. He was being held without bail at the Citrus County jail.
The victim, whose name is withheld because of the nature of the crime, did not know her attacker, authorities said.
The attacker entered the one-story, single-family home in Inverness through a bedroom window. Detectives found a fingerprint that matched Byron's; the woman later looked at a photo lineup and identified him as her attacker, authorities said.
Detectives found Byron hiding under his bed Wednesday, and investigators say he admitted to raping the woman. According to the report, he told detectives he has a sex addiction.
In November 2004, Byron pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary of a structure and was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail and four years of probation, according to court records. In 2003, he pleaded no contest to a charge of petty theft, and in 2002 he pleaded no contest to a charge of maliciously disturbing the contents of a grave.
