The suspect, Steven Scott Mitchell, 41, of Jacksonville, Fla., was arrested Friday after a police sergeant saw him driving a vehicle that matched a description from one victim, said police spokeswoman Rene Ball. Mitchell is accused of assaulting five women along Lynnhaven Parkway and Holland Road starting the evening of April 26. Four subsequent attacks happened on the evening of April 28. In each case, the suspect approached a lone woman from behind and grabbed her buttocks before running away. Ball said the suspect also grabbed one victim’s crotch. Mitchell was charged with one count of sexual battery and four counts of simple assault. He is being held in the city jail without bond.
